Tell a friend:

if you want completely free internet, set up your own isp, then you deal with the costs of terabytes per day.
However, the thing that's wrong with the privatized version is that the companies would be able to completely censor everything on their private pipeline as they see fit. If it were just laying more lines so people could have access to faster net service, this would be a non-issue, but the problem lies in the fact that the companies that pay for privatized service get to dictate what else is on there.
To be honest, trying to stop the cable companies doing what they want with their pipes is a much greater threat to democracy than what the cable companies want to do. It's a dangerous precedent to set to say that the government should be able to dictate what people do with their private property.
I bet Obama is for net neutrality.
There is an independent liberal-progressive movement that supports these freedoms. They are the friends, corporate and dominant political political powers are the enemies.
Therefore they don't have the right to regulate the speed with which the content should be transferred over their pipes.
They let me rent their pipe, but i can determine myself what i want to transfer over their pipe.
