Video Description:
Ford Motor Company is introducing a new technology called EcoBoost that will deliver up to 20 percent better fuel economy on half a million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles annually in North America during the next five years.
The EcoBoost family of 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines features turbocharging and direct injection technology. Compared with more expensive hybrids and diesel engines, EcoBoost builds upon today's affordable gasoline engine and improves it, providing more customers with a way to improve fuel economy and emissions without compromising driving performance.
Derrick Kuzak, Ford's group vice president of Global Product Development explains EcoBoost and the company's sustainability plan in this video.

All these years when Japanese cars are ruling the roost with their fuel efficient cars, Ford and GM produced gas guzzlers. Now that their debt equity ratio is gone very high, suddenly they realised the need to develop fuel efficient cars. By the time these cars become popular, there may not be much oil left. America's share in the world oil consumption is 25% but share in reserves is just 3%.

The Mini Cooper already has Turbo, Direct injection, electric steering etc. from a 1.6L engine. This is already availble. As usual the US market is behind.

What you people are failing to see is that this is going to be mainstream. In EU or japan its only available to select cars. The DI with turbo will be offered in all of Ford's vehicles.

So it took them this long to figure out the advantages of forced induction x3 Anyway isn't Chevy's ecotec the same thing O.o other then that I think Chevy only makes them as inline 4s. Good to see that American car manufactures are taking a step in the right direction at least.

yeah Mazda and Chevy already are using this sort of technology. Good to see Ford using it too, but Fords US cars are lame vs what they sell in Europe.

No he's talking petrol (gasoline) direct injection. VW have had it for years now on Golf and other models. Golf GTi is Direct injection gasoline tubo and has been on the market for almost 4 years. It has been available on some mainstream models from Japan without turbocharging since 1996 then spreading through the world. It's a great technology, just not a brand new amazing one...

What a joke!!!
Notice that the car engine is still above 300 HP too. You don't need that for speed if you have the right power to weight ratio ; but they will never change: or at lest change in time to save some American Jobs!! No wonder Ross Perot quit General Motors after they would't listen to him as to what was going to happen to the the American car industry if they didn't change. Fire every single manager and start from scratch with the engineers in charge!!

Ford was just recognized as being in a statistical dead heat with Honda and surpassing Toyota in quality. I think you are only seeing the beginning for this company. Mulally has them cranking out very high quality product and there new entries look pretty sharp.
